A lot of people really don’t get just how hard it is to write a lot, or produce a lot of creative works so often. It’s just one of those things. And before I go any further in this, I have to give a lot of credit to people who seem to have boundless levels of creativity and time to do the work they love. But me, I suffer from the same problem that a lot of creatives end up getting into at some point or another. Burnout.
When you literally find it so hard to write/create/paint/insert other creative things here, because you have literally run out of energy. It’s absolutely killer, and you feel so terrible for neglecting the stuff you love to do. But sometimes the brain simply needs rest.
I personally find it very hard to maintain the energy to do things like write and create DnD games, because I spend all day trying to be creative on behalf of other people. Now I love the work that I do, but I spend huge amounts of time having to come up with ideas so when it comes to trying to maintain a blog (Especially if I force myself) I sometimes find it very hard.
I make the effort though, so I feel some small sense of pride in that. At least I can say I try with these things. And I do tend to keep the up after some time.
My current pride and joy of my spare hours is the large DnD campaign I’ve been working on, but even now I can feel the grasping fingers of burnout. The entire mechanics of a world being carried around in your head is not exactly the easiest of things to keep rolling with, but in the end I know that one will be worth it.
And hey it might be 2 or 3 months till I start to write another one, but I’ll be back on that horse, make no mistake.
